This year's Social Day at PLATH Corporation GmbH brought ten colleagues to the “Arche” in Hamburg-Billstedt.

The Billstedt “Arche” is an important drop-in centre for children and young people aged between 5 and 18, with between 60 and 150 children and young people currently being looked after at the Billstedt site. The centre opens its doors every day of the week (except Wednesdays) at 1 p.m. for a free lunch, a weekly children's party, homework help and tutoring as well as a wide range of leisure and sports activities. The offer is also supplemented by holiday and learning camps.

On 11 June, the PLATH Corporation team in Billstedt was warmly welcomed by Andrea, the educator responsible for the youth area.

She told us about the children and young people who attend her centre and gave us an insight into the processes and rules of the facility. We were particularly impressed by the atmosphere in the “Arche” and the way the “Arche” team interacts with the children and young people.

The list of tasks prepared by the “Arche” was long and the PLATH team was highly motivated: they cleared out, decluttered, painted, sorted, cleaned and tidied up again. In the afternoon, we were supported by some young people with whom we had interesting conversations. At the end of the day, all the items on the list were ticked off.

The PLATH Corporation donation of EUR 5,000 was used to purchase renovation materials and a new sofa for the youth room, among other things.

In 1994, the DFP 5300 developed by PLATH was the world's first broadband direction finder (photo). Until then, it was only possible to determine the direction of arrival of individual radio signals. Thanks to a series of unique innovations, it was now possible to simultaneously locate several signals at different frequencies and display them in an overview display, a so-called direction finding and overview spectrum.

At that time, however, broadband only meant an instantaneous bandwidth of 200 kHz with a total frequency range of 6.4 MHz. In comparison, the current state of the art is at least 80 MHz instantaneous bandwidth and a frequency range of at least 6 GHz. The DFP 5300 consisted of an advanced multi-channel receiver with a well-equipped computer for the time with a 68000 processor from Motorola, which was also used in the Atari ST or Amiga home computers from Commodore.

PLATH Intelligence Day has been taking place the day before AOC Europe for over 10 years, bringing together organisations and individuals from government, defence, industry and academia before the conference and exhibition each year. It also aims to promote the exchange of ideas and information and to present and discuss advances and trends in intelligence-related reconnaissance and analysis technologies.

In 2023 PLATH once again held Social Days as part of our corporate social responsibility activities, with which we want to make a voluntary contribution to improving conditions in our neighborhood.

Back in the summer, PLATH took part in the "Klar Schiff" campaign and collected garbage from public areas in the Hammerbrook district, where our company headquarters are located. The city cleaning campaign "Klar Schiff" is carried out every year by Stadtreinigung Hamburg together with its partners - and has been for 25 years.

The PLATH teams made sure that 25 bags of garbage were collected in the immediate neighborhood - and this included everything from fixer-upper cutlery to broken bicycle locks with matching side cutters. As a thank you for their work, the management of the RRS business unit treated all the helpers to a barbecue. In addition, the five handcarts that were purchased as a means of transportation were raffled off among those present.

In the fall, a team of almost 15 colleagues from PLATH S&I supported "LOOKI e.V. - Verein zur Tierrettung" and also made a financial donation. The energetic work in the garden included building fences and doors, weeding and carrying out ground work. There was also plenty of fun to be had with the pupils and the operator of the association, who also took part in the work.
